The long awaited Coosa River field trip is only ONE week away! If you haven't turned in the permission forms, please make sure that they are turned in by Thursday. Friday we will be on a field trip to the Watershed Festival here in town. Since we have a field trip on Friday, and a guest speaker coming on Wednesday morning, I have lightened the work load this week. Over the past few weeks, your kiddos have been researching how our state became a state. They have discovered that our capital has moved five different times and now resides in Montgomery. In 1819, Alabama was the 22nd state to join the country. We visited the state Capitol in Montgomery during the field trip last Friday. We also toured Dexter Avenue Baptist Church (the church MLK preached at), Old Alabama Town, and the Rosa Parks Museum. Here are a few pictures from the trip! This week (10/27-10/31) is RED Ribbon Week. Here are the dress up days to support living a drug free life:
Monday: Red Ribbon Kick Off: Wear red Tuesday: Put a Cap on Drugs: Wear your favorite hat Wednesday: Sock it to Drugs: Wear your favorite pair of socks (wacky, silly, mismatched, colorful, etc.) Thursday: Living Drug Free is NO SWEAT!: Wear your favorite exercise clothes Friday: Champions Don't Do Drugs: Wear your favorite sports team jersey or shirt Here is what is going on in the classroom this week: -We are starting the Alabama Statehood Project on Monday. It will be due on November 10th. -Flocab Unit 3 Test is Monday -Math Quest is Thursday. Reviewing Math Review is the best way to study for this quiz! -The Last Book in the Universe Test is Friday. Your kiddo needs to finish reading the book and complete the Lit Circle job (Chapters 26-33). Breaking News… The Federal Government does not have enough money to run all three branches of government. The enormous task of determining which of the three branches to eliminate rests on the shoulders of the fourth graders at Tuscaloosa Magnet Elementary School. The merits of each branch will be debated and after the debate, we will notify the Federal Government of our elimination decision. Your kiddos were able to research all about the Executive Branch, and then debate against the other fourth grade classes. From the debate, they were able to learn why it is so important that we have ALL three branches in our government. Here are some pictures from the debate. |
