The class succeeded in defending the importance of the responsibilities of the legislative branch on Friday. I was so impressed with all of the fourth graders. Through the debate, they learned that we need all three of our branches of government in order to function effectively. They also discovered the reason for checks and balances. I have posted a few pictures of the debate below!!

I hope you all enjoyed the entra hour of sleep this weekend!! We had quite the eventful week at school with the red ribbon dress up days and Harvest Party. I will post pictures soon!
In social studies, we are finishing up our study on government. The students have been researching Alabama's statehood. This week, they will continue to work on the project in class. It is due on Friday, November 13th. I will also introduce a new project called The Great Debate. Each of the fourth grade classes will be given a branch of government to research. Next Friday, the students will debate which government is the most important in our country. Parents/guardians are welcome to join and watch this debate!! We started a new measurement unit in math. We have discussed the two systems of measurement, and the kiddos are practicing using many different measuring tools to measure various objects around the classroom. We will begin learning about polygons, rays, line segments, etc. this week. This is our last week of reading The Last Book in the Universe. The students will have a test on the entire book on Friday after discussing it in their literature circles. We will also discuss the book as a class and connect it to our lines of inquiry. The next book we will be reading is called The City of Ember. The books have not been delivered to the school yet, but we will begin reading it as soon as possible! We will begin a new science unit this week as well. The students will be building cars as they learn about motion and design. This science kit is very hands-on and engaging!! I will send home information on Friday regarding our field trip next week to Montgomery!! I know that the kids are really excited about this amazing opportunity. It is such a great trip to conclude our study on government. Must Do's (due Friday, 11/6) 1. Reader's Notebook response 2. Flocab 11 Have a great day, Ms. Bryant Hey parents,
We are off the grid yet again. The email server that the TCS uses is currently not working. I have not been able to send or receive any mail for the past few days. If you need to contact me you may use my google email ([email protected]), call the school, or send a note with your child to school. Also, picture day is TOMORROW!! We had a great time touring Moundville yesterday and learning about the Prehistoric Mississippian Indians. The students were able to watch an informative video about the history of Moundville, climb the tallest mound in Alabama (60 ft tall), explore the "three sisters" garden, and tour a Native American museum. Ask your child all about it!!

Hey Parents! What a GREAT first few weeks of school. I loved getting to know all of the kids! I am looking forward to a wonderful year. I will send an informational email each week to let you know of the important events/assignments. Your child also has a calendar that is placed in the front of his/her Eagle. This is a great way for the students to be reminded of the assignments. I was very impressed with the literature circles that the kids participated in yesterday. They were well prepared and ready to discuss the book!! The intern students from The University of Alabama loved listening to the students thoughts, feelings, and ideas about the book. I sent your child home with a list of multiplication facts that he/she needs to be working on over the next several weeks. We made flash cards today in class. Please make sure that your child works on these facts for at least 10 minutes each night! It is very important that your child knows the facts before we begin our next multiplication unit. Please sign the attached form with the fact page to confirm that your child has been practicing the facts. Also, you can check my resources page for online multiplication games! Also, please send in the signed communication and field trip permission forms! E-mail me if you have any questions! [email protected] Have a great week! The kids were able to go on a garden hike to learn more about the plants in the garden. They were even able to taste some of the delicious strawberries grown in our garden! Each week, your child has the opportunity to learn in the outdoor classroom, otherwise known as The Garden. Your child has planted, observed, harvested, tasted, and recorded data on the various plants in our garden. |
